Interview:
✧ In one or two sentences, describe the main themes present in your game.
Solve creative puzzles with whimsical animals and explore a world with childlike wonder.
✧ What was the inspiration of the game? What made your team decide to make this game specifically?
A Thing or Too began as a playground for us to combine our love for whimsical art with first-person shooting mechanics. We aimed to push forward the genre of 3D puzzle adventure games with our own spin.
Countless iterations evolved into the game it is now– a first-person puzzle adventure set in a beautiful yet whacky cave where the player has to learn how to interact with the absurd animals and objects in order to move forward.
Our game values are woven throughout, such as snappy control, freedom of movement and reactive systems. There is a very purposeful layer of childlike wonder underlying the entire game.
✧ What were some of your most memorable moments from making this game? What did you learn from those moments?
Our memorable moment was collectively recovering from a place of insecurity. Halfway through the process, we wondered if we even had a game at all. We doubted its playability and "fun" factor.
But together as a team, we persisted with the idea, bet on ourselves and all came back with stronger ideas and a deeper desire to make the game we wanted.
We are proud of the way we picked ourselves up, held each-others back and strove to learn and improve.
✧ Talk about your teammates! What was everyone's role?
We all played the role of game designers and specialized in the following functions:
Emma- Art
Zezhen - Programming
Victoria- Production & Marketing
