For Major Studio Spring
Guide the ant through a fractured digital colony, collecting nearby ants into living circuits that can stack, split, and hold signals. Rewire logic gates, open firewalls, and lead your swarm through the maze-like network.
Interview:
✧ In one or two sentences, describe the main themes present in your game.
You will guide the ants through a computer-like system while rescuing more ants to grow your colony, move in clusters, stack into towers, and connect together to solve the puzzles along the way.
✧ What was the inspiration of the game? What made your team decide to make this game specifically?
Our game was inspired by the original 2D prototype, which we decided to evolve into a 3D experience while expanding on the original puzzle and movement mechanics. We especially wanted to emphasize the feeling of controlling an actual ant colony, so we introduced new ant-inspired behaviors such as moving in clusters, stacking into towers, and working together to solve the puzzles.
✧ What were some of your most memorable moments from making this game? What did you learn from those moments?
We bought a real ant habitat and spent time watching how ants actually move and build their colony. We also learned how important it is to have a clear direction before adding too many mechanics into the game. Even though some feedback made us feel discouraged at times, our team kept supporting each other and continued working together through the hardest parts of development.
✧ Talk about your teammates! What was everyone's role?
Leo is the leader of our ant colony and one of the programmers, while Guiyu is the other programmer on the team. Nicholas is the art director, Ariia works on the 3D assets, and Eric is the tech artist. Charlie is the lead level designer, and Johnny is also part of the design team while helping with the UI and sound implementation. Xinbei is the project manager and helps out with a bit of everything across the project.
