Interview:
✧ What was the inspiration of the game? What made your team decide to make this game specifically?
This is an ambitious student game made by our small team in 8 months - it’s a love letter to all creatives everywhere. It was inspired by our anxieties about the future as creatives, game devs, and young adults in general. The Dreamer is very much a combination of all of us, which is what made making levels so fun, relieving, and unifying all at once!
✧ What were some of your most memorable moments from making this game? What did you learn from those moments?
There was a Playtest Thursday that I went to right after significantly revamping Chapter 1 where a playtester told me after playing that the game was really funny, but that he could see and feel that there was something more significant and personal in the game as well. That moment really reinforced to me the idea that iteration is king, but also was amazing because I felt so seen. The idea that I was able to communicate with this person that I knew nothing about through a piece of art that I was creating with my friends really stuck with me for some reason, maybe because it was the first time I’d seen it so clearly in a game that I worked on, and a game that means so much to me.
✧ Talk about your teammates! What was everyone's role?
We all did game design! Here’s the breakdown more specifically though:
Kimya: producer, presentation-maker, and narrative designer!
Antonio: narrative designer and programmer
Jing-xing: level designer and programmer
Mushroom: level designer and art director
AJ: sound design an audio implementation
Gideon Johnson: music composition
